There are lots of ways that folks can help out with Historical Society and Museum activities.

AT THE MUSEUM

We have an excellent group of volunteers who work with our collections by researching, organizing, filing, building displays, and in many other ways that make use of their various skills.

We also have a group of dedicated Museum Docents who serve as tour guides for visitors, especially during our weekend open hours. New docent training sessions are held at regular intervals.

Let us know if you would like to assist in either of these areas.

MAKING DONATIONS

Nearly all the items in our Museum collections have been donated to the Historical Society.

Since 1998 we have built two additions to our original facility, constructed a 6,000 sq.ft. storage building, and added 16 acres to our original 4-acre lot.

Nearly everything in these additions has been donated during the past 16 years. We have always been particular about insisting that proposed donations have a distinct association with Knox County, Ohio, although we do make occasional exceptions.

We should also mention the donation by local business persons of much-needed services, such as glass repair and replacement, locksmithing services, emergency snow plowing, etc.

If you have particular items or services that you would like to donate, stop by or give us a call (740-393-5247) to discuss it. We love to receive new items that add to the story of Knox County's past (and present, too.)

SUPPORT FOR SPECIFIC PROJECTS

When we have needed to expand our Museum, we have asked for and received outstanding support from both individuals and organizations in our community.

We have also had excellent outside financial support for specific short-term projects that were beyond our means. One example would be the restoration of the 1930's art deco lighted glass scene from the lobby of our Vernon Theater, which required extensive wiring and neon repair.

From time-to-time, we will list here any Museum or Society projects that might be worthy of individual support. Check back often to see what's new.

PLANNED GIVING

There are many kinds of planned gifts which can help donors leave a legacy at The Knox County Historical Society, while at the same time providing you and your family with tax benefits.

Wills, life insurance, retirement plans and even real estate are just a few of the vehicles that might be discussed with your estate planner.
Our association with the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County also facilitates such planned giving considerations. You can CLICK HERE to learn more about their many well-designed programs and services.

Should you decide to arrange a planned gift to the Historical Society, please let us know. You need only provide information that you are comfortable sharing. You may contact us by phone (740-393-5247) or by regular mail, at P. O. Box 522, 875 Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.

And thanks so much for thinking of us.
